Asher Mains grew up in a home filled with art and a family filled with artists, so his decision to pursue art professionally was hardly a surprise.
Mains’ focus has been portraiture as a form, but he has also spent time dealing with issues of economic development as well as agriculture. His current project, ‘Social Portraiture,’ involves painting portraits of cocoa farmers in Grenada to acknowledge their importance in society. He then gives the pieces to the farmers, further validating their worth and creating art owners in an unlikely setting.
Mains references a variety of artists in his work and elements of both classical painting and street art.
