It might well be the only place in the world where Amerindian and Soviet cultures collide! Pearls Airport is an extremely curious tourist attraction.
Opened in 1943, Grenada’s first international airport was built on an ancient Amerindian site, though quite unfortunately few of the relics remain. Instead, the airport is decorated with abandoned Soviet aircrafts, once gifts from Cuba, lying on the grass beside the landing strip. Scavenged and sun-bleached, they are a rare visual reminder of Cuba’s presence in Caribbean.
Visit, if you can, and take a step back in time!
