Gouyave

Sometimes called the fishing capital of Grenada, Gouyave is the commercial centre of St. John, and birthplace of teen Olympian Kirani James. The French founded Gouyave in 1734, when it was first named “Bourg de L’Ance Gouyave” and, although the British changed the name to Charlotte Town, the French name prevails today.

Gouyave is as famous for its festivals as it is for its fish and visitors can enjoy the annual Fisherman’s Birthday in June, as well as the Fish Friday Festival every Friday evening, both of which are celebrated with music and delicious local food.
