Sendall Tunnel

The Sendall Tunnel was originally constructed in 1895 to provide access between east and west St. George when horse and donkey carts were the main mode of transport. Coming down the mountainous inclines, the Tunnel was key in preventing these carts from drifting into the sea when carrying heavy loads downhill. Still an adventure in itself for pedestrians, Sendall Tunnel now connects the two very different sides of the town.
